| Band Program
At Longfellow Humanities Magnet School, band is available for
students in Fourth through Sixth Grade. Mr. Fulton, the band teacher,
is in
the building half time. Students have the opportunity to study any of
the band instruments and receive one thirty-minute lesson per week.
They
also will be participating in a large group rehearsal once per week for
fifty minutes.
We have two groups that meet every week starting in
November. Our Beginning Band focuses on learning the fundamentals of
playing their instrument, and our Concert Band is made up of our more
experienced musicians. Second and Third year students also have the
opportunity to play in a small ensemble which performs several times
during the school year for assemblies and at our Spring Band Concert.
Longfellow Humanities Magnet School has a limited number of school-owned instruments which are
available for rent at $50 for the school year.
Strings Program
Violin, viola, cello and bass are the stringed instruments that are
taught at Longfellow Humanities Magnet School. Mr. Leo Bjorlie, the stringed instrument
teacher, is at the school one-half day each week. Students work on
fundamentals of string playing and learn to play beautiful music for
strings. Each student gets a free half-hour lesson once each week.
There are some instruments available for rental from the school.
Concerts, recitals and field trips are part of the string music
program.
